Welcome to Christopher's By The Bay!
We would like to thank you for choosing Christopher's by the Bay for your stay in Provincetown!
While we're still working on exploring the history of this old house, we do know that it has been a home to school teachers, artists, fishermen and sea captains in its long history. Since most of the records in the Town of Provincetown were destroyed in a fire in the 1920's, much of the history of the building has been lost. Recent records show that it has been an inn since the 1970's – the Swanberry Inn, then a short inception as Carpe Diem and since 1999 as Christopher's by the Bay.
The namesake for the inn, Christopher Covelli, is an accomplished chef. You may find him teaching at a culinary school in Tuscany, whipping up meals in Sarasota Florida or competing in Iron Chef competitions.
Provincetown is the oldest existing art colony in the United States. Staying true to the history of this little seaside village, each guest room is named after one of the greats: Michelangelo, Dali, O'Keefe, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, etc.
Your current hosts, Dave and Jim started visiting Provincetown on vacation a number of years ago and found a peace and tranquility in this little seaside village that kept drawing them back over and over. Finally in 2006, we decided to leave the hustle and bustle of the Washington DC area and fulfill a dream of owning a bed and breakfast.
Both Dave and Jim continue to keep one foot in their former professional lives, with Dave teaching high school at Provincetown High School and Jim continuing to do leadership training and development for non-profits with Leadership Outfitters, Inc. – but both now enjoy baking, hosting guests and playing with the dogs on the beach each day in Provincetown!
Oh, and if you see Elizabeth or any of her friends, just say 'hi' — she's a kind spirit.
Welcome to Provincetown — Like Nowhere Else! We hope you have a wonderful stay!
Dave and Jim
